GOD DAMN man, this shit is crazy good; the DnB drums are a solid 10/10 already, but my god man, this song just feels great to listen to, the bass and trumpet especially is goddamn FUNKY as all hell, hooooooooly shiet man

Jazzy yeeeee, happy that we get some new good jazzy SNES music! Cool composition and arrangement, especially that breakdown, love that!! One piece of critique though, is that when the key hits the tonic (f+, if you tuned your instruments to C), the bass has an out-of-place note every time, namely a d. You could make it work by making it a blue note, doing a walk from c+ to d+ with a short stop at d inbetween, but as such the note clashes with the chords. I think your sample selection, and usage of the samples, is superb (though, I think the ADSR on the piano chords could be a bit more snappy!), and the loop is neat and tidy.

Ooooooooh, this one is quite nice; was expecting this to be the Owl City song, but then I remembered this is the originals section lmao
This one sounds quite happy and upbeat, like something from Kirby mixed with some 90s demoscene goodness, and honestly I just love the vibes from this haha
Exodustx0 6.5 59.6
Cool composition, nice and bright, which contrasts in a funny but neat way with the lo-fi ish instrumentation and the slightly shimmery, unstable pitch of the song (I absolutely love the pitch in this, marvelous job). There are some volume leveling issues though (channel #4 at 0:39 is very loud), and most glaringly, in the intro the bass has bass, but the main loop's bass has no bass! I'll say that listening to the loop for a while has me feeling like the piece could work with that lo-fi ish low-end lacking sound, but it doesn't combine with a bass in the intro that *doesn't* have that. At that, I love the loop.

This was an accident on my part. I accidentally sent an unreleased Kung Fu Furby: The Game song that I had ported over using Secret of Mana samples (I also have a version with more original samples). Thus, I never planned this, and thus it's actually frozen in time in 2012, as that's how old it is (and the original, which is not a SNES song, is from late 2011). And if you're wondering something else... I had originally planned this for SNESology, but ended up abandoning the idea after making a few songs with pre-made sample sets (albeit with me ripping them straight out of SPC files rather than using soundfonts). As for why I submitted this in the first place? To blend in, since I have some savviness in how to ensure I don't get ratted out too quickly. On that note, this actually pre-dates an actual port that I did in 2014 of the same song, and was normally split into three parts (this is the only one where those three parts were combined).

The intro almost made this think this was going to turn into Wind Scene from Chrono Trigger lmao
Well, this is not bad at all actually, tho if there's one thing I can say is that the echo can get quite overbearing, especially when the piano hits those high notes, but outside of that, it's quite pleasa-------- AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaand suddenly it goes into
goddamn Touhou levels of epic LMAO, allllllright then :V
Exodustx0 6.8 67.6
The composition is pretty cool, it has a good sense of progression to it! I think the samples are good too (one of the best piano samples that I've heard), and volume leveling is done well. I do have a few points of critique, firstly the echo. It is, *incredibly* dubby, as in, the feedback is crazy high. It has a nice effect in places, but it has a really strong resonance to it that isn't too pleasant, and messes with some instruments that I'd like to hear better, especially so in the second half, but generally everywhere. Maybe consider adding a filter, or lowering the feedback, or inverting one of the left or right echo volume bytes to make it "surround". On that note, the stereo image isn't very satisfying; aforementioned byte inversion could help, but I think it's better if you did more with panning. You have a fitting arrangement for it.

composition isnt too bad, but i really dont like the choice of instrumentation. tho - without trying to come off as rude - it feels a bit.. untrained. that is - i think you need to work on making your melodies fit with your chords and harmonies better. as it stands it falls a bit flat because it sounds like a bunch of uncooperating layers each trying to do their own thing

Exodustx0 5.4 29.6
I liked the composition pretty well up to 1:16, where the new instruments on channels #4 and #5 came in and clashed *hard* with the chords; they tonally don't work well at all. Now, I really love how you wrote the loop, has a great sense of direction to it. Your stereo image is gorgeous too, with nice panning, echo and faux-echo. I also think the sample selection is pretty good! One more thing to change is the volume on the first snare, it's a bit too sudden. I'm sorry I couldn't give this a passing score, I *really* hope you fix #4 and #5, because this has great potential! I'd likely have upped it to about an 8 if those channels were in key!

Hmm, I quite like the echo volume modulation here actually, quite an interesting effect to use for this, the composition itself is kind of crap tho, I don't think this really has a very strong direction on where it's going to, and only the bongos really make me feel like this is a desert, while the monotone lead really drags this down by quite a bit
I'd say this could be better if it was more fleshed-out tho, but it's not too bad, just feels very... incomplete to me :V
Exodustx0 5.8 40.0
The percussion sets a nice tone, really like that. It's a bold move to go for such lonely melodies, but unfortunately I'd say they're too directionless to make it work. The idea is definitely there though. I'd say keep experimenting with it!

Neat! The chord progression has some quirky standoffish bits, but for the most part has a good progression to it. I love the sample usage, but I do have to critique it on being very centered on the lower and mid frequencies, which makes this song a bit muddy. I'm not saying that this piece needs to have more going on in the high-end (though some sparkle wouldn't be misplaced I think), just try and be creative about un-muddying the mix :) really nice sound.

A literal last-hour entry, and that was with the extension. I created it as a surprise by using a genuine copy of the N-SPC sound driver, porting it over to asar, then porting over a prototype I made in Schism Tracker (although the N-SPC song got started first: I just got carried away and ended up making the entire song in the prototype). Next time, I should consider hacking the sound driver to account for key off situations and get a little more polish on some of those samples... I was also considering adding on echo outside of the ending, but I abandoned the idea due to memory and time constraints due to finishing the port just before the deadline.

Hmm....... sorry, but this one is a bit too boring for me; seems like it wants to build up into something greater, but it just kinda... doesn't??? The part after 2:00 is quite nice tho actually, but still a bit too long of a buildup for me... hmm, actually no, wait, is it still going?????? hmm, quite interesting... it keeps building up more and more, without ever wanting to end--- ah, I see it now, it does indeed build up eventually, but it's way after the SPC's length ends... I think this gives me quite a good idea on who may have made this actually, only them would make super long songs that make you feel like you're embarking on a great odyssey through the cosmos haha; ngl, this was a great one indeed, was quite a experience :P
Exodustx0 7 72.5
The gentle smallness is executed really well. I'm rather fond of the composition. I do think the main melody on channel #0 lacks character (some ADSR, and/or a gentle vibrato, would've helped a ton). I also think that the main chords are a bit too muddy, so I'd rethink the choice of notes (I think it could prove hard to keep the chords un-muddy at this low an octave with 4 notes; perhaps removing a note could be good enough). Stereo-wise I would've loved at least an echo, which I think this song could use very well (a long delay time would be cool if you can make it fit in the ARAM, that sounds really exciting for this song), or at least some panning. Especially the instruments that you've doubled in channels could use some panning. Nice work, interested to hear what more you will do with this, if anything!

This was originally made in 2014 for a theoretical Manchester Beat soundtrack featuring a remix of the actual NES song (found in Cover 006) as part of a wider Action 52 remix project I was planning to give the entire collection their own soundtracks for theoretical games, 4 tracks minimum. See also Original 010, which is part of the Manchester Beat soundtrack. There's one track not included because something major was never added on to it.

Hey, this sounds familiar. First, a question; how is cover006 a cover, but this isn't? I'm not familiar with this Manchester Beat, but it's a bit odd. Either way, doesn't matter. I'll start with recapping that like cover006, the main stab on channel #2 (src: 04 and 05, mostly 05) is tuned a bit too flat. This does have a better stereo image. I really dig the lopsided groove you got going here, works really well with the stab sample and bass. Some samples could've done well to be treated less plainly, like the square lead (src: 08); could've used some vibrato, tremolo, *something* to give it more body, more character.

Exodustx0 4.5 12.0
Aaaaaalright hmm, I'll start with a positive. Instrumentation is nice, and the mixing is pretty well done. The reason I'm scoring this one pretty low is because of the tonality of this song. There is not a clear direction that the song goes, and it doesn't ever find any closure or otherwise explains itself, and I think that's not a good thing for this song. Sounds like you're pretty new to composing, so I'll be sure to tell you, that's alright, it really takes a lot of time before you get a good grip on that, so I definitely recommend you to keep at it! I'll also say, most people would jump to say "start by studying some music theory," and while learning music theory can in some cases definitely be very useful, especially the longer it's gotten to develop and settle in your memory, I'd only recommend you do that once you actually *want* to. If you don't want to, I encourage you to wait with that, just keep working. It's a great tool if you *want* to use it! Also, nice tempo fade at the end of the loop, don't hear that often!
